Where Are Landfills

Are you wondering where there are landfills in Northeastern Oklahoma? You may be surprised to learn that there’s a state-of-the-art waste-to-energy facility right here in Green Country. American Environmental Landfill is located at 207 North 177th West Avenue in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. It’s easy to hop on the Sand Springs Expressway or take Highway 412 to the North 177th West Avenue exit.

Are you also curious when we’re open? Almost every day! We’re here Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and on Saturday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We do ask that you have your hand loads on site at least a half hour before end of day so that you have plenty of time to drop off your items before we close up shop.

For more information, check out our location page where you’ll find our complete address, our phone number, and interactive map to help you plan your trip.

Since we’re situated right in Sand Springs, we’re definitely the nearest landfill for the city and other neighboring communities. We love our home in this vibrant and beautiful area and we work hard to give back in some fun and interesting ways. For starters, we focus on being both quiet and productive so that our impact is felt in only a positive manner. Our employees tackle a list of daily tasks that include jobs like compacting and covering the waste on site, using litter fences to contain stray material, removing any wandering debris, and watering the roads so that dust settles quickly instead of obscuring the air and beautiful Oklahoma views.

Our land is also home to some 280,000 honey bees, a colony we help raise in order to support local plant life as well as the Tulsa eco-system as a whole. Bees are an essential part of the circle of life and they’re unfortunately more endangered than people realize. At American Environmental Landfill, we take great care to clear brush by hand rather than using damaging herbicides so we don’t disturb the bees or their feeding grounds.

We’re more than just a garbage landfill and we’re beyond flattered that some of the most prestigious organizations in the country are taking note of the American Environmental Landfill difference. The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) calls us the leading landfill in the waste industry.

Why have we received such honors? We think it’s a mixture of our stellar customer service, our commitment to community involvement, our dedication to innovation, and our persistent pursuit of environmental awareness. When it comes to changing the world, our job is never done, but seeing the beauty of Green Country live on for generations to come is worth every step.

Many people define an open landfill as one in which garbage is simply dumped and left to rot. This is the old model and we believe we can do better – in fact, we’ve made it our mission to improve upon the way our society views and deals with its waste. That’s just one reason why we’ve made a commitment to being a waste-to-energy facility. If we can give trash another life by converting it into electricity, a system we’re incredibly proud of, then we’re making real change possible and that’s a big deal.
