Tulsa Landfill

If you live in Oklahoma and already receive regular trash service from American Waste Control, you may be wondering which Tulsa landfill is associated with the same company. The answer? American Environmental Landfill. Our facility helps bridge the gap between waste disposal and conservation by finding sustainable ways to deal with our community’s refuse. From giving previously unusable trash new life to continuously researching and implementing new forward-thinking programs, we’re working hard to change what it means to be in the waste industry.

We’re happy to be known as a sustainable landfill Tulsa residents can trust. Visit our website to learn more about our facility and programs or schedule a tour and experience it all first hand

Our award-winning Tulsa landfill is easy to reach. We’re conveniently located just off the Sand Springs Expressway, HWY 412, and N. 177th Street. If you’re coming from Tulsa, it’s a straight shot west on HWY 412 and you’ll take the N. 177th West Avenue exit to reach our facility.

Because of our proximity to our neighbors, we take extra care in making sure we’re a responsible and respectful member of the Tulsa community. Our daily task list includes regular waste compaction and debris removal and we water our on-site roads to keep dust to a minimum. We’ve even installed a wheel washer – the only solid-waste facility in Oklahoma to have one – so that our employees and clients can scrub up their tires before heading out.

American Environmental Landfill was the first facility in Oklahoma to become a waste-to-energy center. We’re incredibly proud to be leading the charge in renewable energy production and the process is every bit as fascinating as it sounds. It all starts when we use specially drilled wells to capture the methane gas given off by trash decomposing in our landfill. That gas is then funneled into three generators where it’s converted into electricity. That electricity is delivered to our local power plant, ultimately being used to light the homes of nearly 18,000 residents of Osage County.

Being a Tulsa landfill that generates renewable energy is an integral part of both or mission and our vision for a happy, healthier planet. For more information, check out our page detailing the ins and outs of our innovative approach to harnessing the power of non-recyclable trash.

Our dedication to eco-friendly practices has gained us recognition both locally and on the national stage. We were honored to be the recipient of the 2016 Henry Bellmon Sustainability Stewardship Award, a prize that recognizes companies that have a positive impact on community-wide quality of life and economic growth while making a concerted effort to have a positive impact on the environment.

In addition to our waste-to-energy program, American Environmental Landfill has taken a number of other steps to reduce waste and promote conservation. We’ve dedicated part of property to beekeeping in an effort to bolster the local honeybee population and encourage the spread of local wildflowers, and our community service includes our work at the American Therapeutic Riding Center. Best of all, we’re educating our neighbors by giving “behind the scenes” tours of our facility and developing industry-specific solutions that help businesses embrace sustainability in a way that makes economic sense.
